Garuda Wisnu Kencana

Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue is located in Bukit Unggasan — Jimbaran, Bali. This statue stands tall within the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park complex and is the work of a famous Balinese sculptor. The GWK statue is only a landmark in this area which is referred to as a cultural park. The land for GWK is planned to be 220 hectares. However, about 60 hectares were successfully acquired. GWK has a weight of 3,000 tons and a height of 121 meters from the ground. It is taller than the Statue of Liberty in New York which has a height of 93 meters.

The history of the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue was built in 1992 by a Balinese-born architect named I Nyoman Nuarta. In 1998, when the monetary crisis occurred, the construction of this statue was stopped even though I Nyoman Nuarta had targeted to complete the Garuda Wisnu Kencana and finally the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue was completed and inaugurated in August 2018. We Bali Tour provide tour to visit Garuda Wisnu Kencana. I Nyoman Nuarta wanted to make it an area that was rarely populated when it is a tourist spot that is as crowded as Bali Beach. So, a magnificent GWK statue and a statue of the god Vishnu were made at the expense of the Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC).

Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a form of Lord Vishnu who is the God of Preservation (Sthiti) in Hinduism while riding a Garuda bird. This form comes from the story of Garuda and his kingdom, namely Lord Vishnu who protects the Garuda bird because it has served and sacrificed to save its mother from slavery. This statue is named Garuda Wisnu Kencana or often abbreviated as GWK. Kencana means gold, because this statue of Garuda bird and Lord Vishnu stands in a gold-plated place. We have tour to visit this site which is Full Day Uluwatu Tour.

I Nyoman Nuarta made a sculpture design consisting of 24 segments with a total of 754 modules. The modules were then sent to Bali in stages during the construction process. Until 2015, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue was only 23 meters high out of a total of 120 meters. After a long wait of 28 years, now the GWK statue has been completed and has a height of about 121 meters from the ground or 271 meters above sea level, with a visibility of up to 20 KM so that it can still be seen from Kuta, Sanur, Nusa Dua, even Tanah Lot. .Not only that, this statue of GWK has become one of the tallest in the world, beating the Statue of Liberty in the United States.
